Throughout the documentary, there is this underlying theme that we are not only tracking elephants, but we are also coming to terms with our ourselves, our nature, and our story.

The characters are often framed small against their environments, and scenes tend to go on in long, still shots. We are forced to passively observe the things that are happening and have a sense of emotional distance.

I admire it for engaging with history in a serious enough way to merit discussion rather than dismissal.
